So I’m teaching in Asheville, NC this week and on my last day I get up check out of my Hotel Room only to go to my car and find it had been broken in to. Shit happens and after all it’s only stuff. I really didn’t care, except that they broke my Bluetooth speakerphone. And as far as I can tell nothing was taken.
Now let me start by saying I’m still not certain what the hell they were after, but it most certainly wasn’t my stuff. I sat in my car for a minute waiting for Asscrack Kutchie to come out and tell me I’d been phuked. Every box in my car had been open and its contents rifled through, 3 spare student kits I had in the back had also been opened and pillaged, yet all contents are seemingly accounted for. The contents of my center console were strewn about the front seats as if someone had recently gone on some sort of toilet papering binge and just couldn’t help themselves but to have their way with my napkin collection. And again all contents are present and accounted for.
A lonely bottle of water was tossed from my ride into the street like a red-headed step child as if to be told it wasn’t good enough for the remaining bottles in the case which as much as the rest were still safely inside the vehicle. Eleven LCD flat panel monitors were shaken, not stirred behind the boxes and under a brand new, if only opened and looked at pair of Oakley Tennis Shoes that I purchased form eBay some time ago as a second pair because I liked the first pair so much. But like the shoes that were opened and seen and tossed on top these eleven monitors sat in my truck with a sort of blank stare on their faces as they leaned on each other, from either having passed out by the excitement of near larceny or most likely depression of not having been good enough for such a connoisseur of pawn shops and thievery, now they must know how Marvin feels.
Three small computers and a High Definition DLP Projector in a duffle bag add to the booty so left behind, the computers were moved and shuffled the duffle opened and emptied yet like all others they do still remain. Compact Discs, a couple of jackets, set of Ethical Hacker books, t-shirt, and a wok and stockpot round out the list of items found in my car prior to and after this massive fail of a burglary.
The only causality to be found beyond the driver who must now clean it all up is a poor little innocent Bluetooth speakerphone, which is where you came into this story. As I opened the door to my auto I noticed a napkin flutter in the wind as if it were trying to divert my eyes from the horror I would soon see. A little piece of electronic heaven sitting lifeless in the driver seat, as I bent down to check for a pulse I realized I was too late it was truly gone.
I mourned this loss the only way I knew how, after calling to police to file a report I put on my Bluetooth headset I keep as a backup, I know my speakerphone would have wanted it that way, and I as I drove off into the sunset later that day I used that little headset to piss and moan about the loss of my little speakerphone for hours. While I am at peace for now I can’t help but wonder… Why leave behind so much loot only to toss the contents of my car and destroy my speakerphone? Like the question about the number of licks to the center of a tootsie pop the world may never know.
I finally got around to starting my MCT blog, hopefully I will also be able to keep it up. My personal blogs will never get done now... I'm still me and I'm not going anywhere, but I've been trying to get something like this started for a while. I though I'd wait until I got a bit less busy, but since that isn't going to happen I guess I'll just add this to the list....
Ask questions, suggest articles, etc. I doubt I will get much done this week since I'm still getting things configured the way I want them, but I'm hoping to do atleast one good article a a week. So go ahead...ask the mct.
It's kinda crazy just how fast the year can go, and before you know it you've turned 30 (People say that's supposed to be a big deal, but it isn't.) and you begin to truly realize that time is fleeting. For those of you that know and care, my little nephew is doing very well, thanks again for all the kind words. He is off his forced air basically and the Jondus Lights, and while it is still technically a day by day scenario he’s quite the little fighter. I’m leaving in a little while to spend the week with my family and before I left I just wanted to with everyone a Mele Kalikimaka Ia 'Oe from my Ohana to yours.
It was time to replace the old Dell e510 3.4 GHz HT and trade up to a true multi-core system. It started with the TV purchase earlier this year, and then a few weeks ago I got a Great deal I got from HP on a Quad Core system (with the base configuration). After several upgrades it is setup to play both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray DVD movies, and playing WoW on a 50" Plasma isn't too bad either.
